Letter to Daddy

At the end of this month it will be a year since you left us.  I know you didn't want to go but you were called away to be there when it is our time to be together again.  You were a friend to so many, I don't think there was anyone who didn't like you.
You were charming, handsome man and I see why our mother fell in love with you.  We are doing the best we can to take care of her, but she misses you so much.
I hope you were happy to see your parents and Jane, and grandparents, aunts and uncles who were there to meet you.  I'm sure there are lots of domino games and cold beer and not to for get all the critters.
We miss you and love you, until we can be together again.

A Little Late What's On The Pegs

I have been a little, no at behind on my blogging.  I have too many things on my plate and not enough forks to eat it.  I am working on it and it will get done.
On my pegs I have a pair of slippers, a place mat and next I need to make stockings.
I made it to Michael's yea! I got a new set of Loops and Threads looms.  I do like them better than the Boye looms.  I will still use the Boye looms for things.
I will be baking some cookies and other sweets for the people that deliver and provide different services for me and my family.  I have to keep the heat goings and if they are happy everybody in our house will be happy and warm.
Makes you wonder how many people give to those out there that do things for us.  Like the mail men and women, the guys that pick up the garbage, and other like that.  I give gifts of fresh baked goods. I have given home baked bread, cookies, pies kolaches, and all things I can not have.
I have celiacs, wich means I can not have any gluten, wheat flour and the like.
I have been gluten free for almost two years and I feel so much better.  I dreamed that I would not be able to eat all the foods that I grew up on, but being free of the pain and upset tummy, that is worth it.
Ok I will get pics up soon.

Magic scarf

I am working on a magic scarf for a friend so she can give it to her sister for Christmas.  It is kind of neat that my work will go to someone I don't even know.  I have never thought about that at all.  Someone you don't know enjoying your work.
I have always made things for friends and family and had never thought about make a dime on any of it.  I enjoy it to much.
Well any way I have three projects in the works before Christmas eve.  Two snowman hats for my nephew and one for a nephew's son.  It may sound normal, but when I tell you that they are just one year of age apart it sounds strange.
My youngest brother is 14 years younger than I am and only 4 years older that my oldest daughter.  My parents had a surprise.
It is always nice to get a double yolker. My chickens love me.  They say it is good luck to get an egg with a double yolk.  We shall see.

Texas Weather

Oh boy it has gotten cold.  Most people would be gripping, but not me.  I am enjoying the cold.  It is always in the 50's this time of year and we are getting 30's.
I am working on my loom knit footies.  My niece wanted a pair.  I got some really cute yarn. I also made a snowman hat.
He is so cute.  I think the fuzzy fun fur makes it cute.
I am working on another pattern and I hope to have it posted soon.

Loom Knit: Wednesday What is on the Loom

Loom Knit: Wednesday What is on the Loom:  On the looms right now is a sock on the KB sock loom and on the all in one is a footie.  On the round loom is a Christmas stocking. So no I...

Wednesday What is on the Loom

On the looms right now is a sock on the KB sock loom and on the all in one is a footie.  On the round loom is a Christmas stocking. So no I don't have anything going.
My grandson keeps me busy, but I love every minute of it.
My friend wants a magic scarf for her sister and she wants me to teach her to make it.  That is going to be fun.  I do have a needle knit afghan that I have been putting off.  Oh well one day at a time.
We are expecting some cold nasty weather here in the next few days.  So all the animals have to have a little extra feed and plenty of water.  Cold doesn't seem to bother the turkeys.  I did get the eggs from Virginia. Yes they are northern turkeys.  The dogs have lots of bedding and a warm place to go. And as far as my plants go, what needed to come in is indoors.  I just hope we don't have a lot of frozen precip.
I have the patter for the loomed footie on the all-in-one KB loom.

Cast on 70
12 rows of garter stitch, knit one row, purl one row.
row 1. p1, k to the last three stitches k2tog. p1 { to do this you are going to have to move stitches. The second stitch moves to the third stitch, and the first stitch moves to where the the second stitch was.  The second to the last stitch moves over to the where the third to the last stitch is and the last stitch moves the where the second to the last was.}
row 2. I slip the first stitch but you can just purl it if you want.  knit until the last stitch and purl the last stitch.
Repeat these two rows until you have 36 or 38 stitches depending on how high your instep is.
Garter stitch for 12 rows.
Bind off loosely and seam it up'
TA DA you have one slipper repeat.

Slacking

I have been out of touch lately.  I have had so much going on that I don't know witch end is up.  I am sure I am not alone.
My niece asked me to make her a pair of slippers for Christmas.  She always asks me to make her stuff.  I knit her socks and she wears them until they are tread bear.  I love it toooo much.
I need to post my pattern for my footie, with pictures.
I let my grandson distract me.  tee hee.
My chickens still aren't laying.  The weather has been crazy and that is why they won't lay.  I have one turkey and my little black hen that are laying.

How could Mow be comfortable.  He sleeps in the strangest places.

Enjoying the Cold

I think I am crazy but we are having cold wet weather here, and I am enjoying it.  We had a hot dry summer so this wet cold stuff just refreshes me.  Texas has been in a drought for a while and to say it is gone is nice.
 Now to my slipper pattern.
If you make this footie you are going to have to do a gauge swatch.
Then measure your foot and around your ankle.
Take the stitches per inch in your swatch and figure how many stitches you need.  You will have to double this amount of stitches.
Then figure how many stitches around your ankle you will need, this will be your decrease amount.
I know I have lost everybody. It is just that there are so many different looms out there and different gauges.
Be patient with me I will get a few out there for everyone.
Have a loomie day

Lion Brand Yarn

You can say what you want about yarn.  Some people like one kind over the other.  Lion Brand yarn has so many different kinds of yarn that it could make your head spin.
Now when it comes to customer care they are tops in my book. I bought two skeins of yarn that were kind of wonky.  I couldn't pull from the center and it had knots in it.  It took me forever to untangle the mess.  So I sent Lion Brand an email to let them know about the problem.  I never expected to get replacement yarn for the ones that were messed up, but low and behold in the mail today there they were.
What can I say.  They will continue to get my business as long as I can loom knit.

Whats on the Pegs Wednesday

Hump day, Wednesday is going to be the day I tell all about what I am working on.  Hopefully I can get pictures.
On my 24 peg round loom I am working on the vertical stripe sock from American Knitter.  I wanted to see how it went.  I started it last night and it is working up pretty fast.  I am almost done.
I have a lot of distractions. But they are worth it.  My 3 month old grandson can distract me all he wants.  He discovered he could laugh out loud and what a hoot.
I am going to start the dorm slipper with the decrease at the ends tonight, if I have time.  If it works out out I will post pictures and put the pattern out.
I am also working on a pair of needle knit socks.  I can't work on them very long or my hands get stiff.
I also wanted to start on a tunisian crochet blanket, if my hands let me.  Tunisian crochet doesn't bother me as much as regular crochet.
I am going to use a bulky yarn for my dorm boots.  If it gets to messing looking I will get a worsted yarn.
Well that is what is on the pegs.

Weather

Anyone who has ever lived in Texas for any period of time knows that the weather is, well hot and sticky most of the time.
Well we had a bit of nice cool weather with low humidity. It was soooooo wonderful. Then BAM we are back it the 80's.
Any woman who, how do I put this delicately, has big boobs knows that when it is hot you sweat.
Normally it is no big deal. Put heat and humidity in after dry cool and you have a pain in or should I say under the boobs.
I have been given advice like"use a little powder under the girls." That is fine if you do it before you get sweaty.
Then I found this stuff, Boudreaux's Butt paste.  The best stuff ever.
Ok enough about that.  I am working on changing the slipper pattern so that it doesn't have all the moved stitches.  I have socks going on two looms and I need to finish them.
Everybody wants socks and slippers.  I will make a few for gifts.
People that don't knit or crochet have no idea how much yarn can cost.  That is why we go crazy when there is a sale.  And yes they are going to get acrylic yarn. It last longer and you can wash it.
I am off the feed the turkeys and chickens.

Socks

Ok I am working on a pair of walking socks on the KB sock loom.
They are like a basic sock except you add 1X1 ribbing to the instep. It makes for a snug fit when you want to use for walking or running, even though I can't run if my life depended on it.
I will post the pattern as soon as I can.

Loom Knit Slippers

Here is the pattern for a pair of slippers knit on the all-in-one knitting board or any medium gauge knitting board.

Crochet cast on 60
Garter stitch ( that is knit one row purl one row on a loom ) for 10 rows.
Next section
Row 1, k 27, k2tog, p2 k2tog, k 27
when you do the k2tog, you are going to have to move stitches. Move 28 to 29 and and 33 to 31. Then you will have to move all the stitches down to the empty pegs.
Row 2. ( and all even rows) k 28, p 2, k 28
repeat this process by decreasing on both sides of the purl 2 until you have 32 stitches left.
Then work 10 rows of garter stitch ( knit one row purl one row ) bind off loosely leaving a long tail for seaming.
Turn the work inside out and whip stitch it together.
Good luck
